French new wave 

 breathless is an example of French new wave, it is a crime drama. 
French new wave was started by french film makers that "rejected what they saw as the formalistic conventions of traditional filmmaking and strove toward what they considered a more naturalistic, cinematic technique." French new wave changed how films where made.
